Better Futures: Deconstruction vs. Demolition

Did you know that building materials like lumber or bricks are salvageable? So are items like solid wood doors, flooring, windows, lights, cabinets, vanities, granite countertops and appliances! Whenever possible, we choose deconstruction before demo to keep as much as possible out of the landfill and offer the resale or reuse of quality items by another household.

Partnering with organizations like Better Futures Minnesota, our clients receive a tax deduction for the appraised value of the items that are salvaged and donated, plus peace of mind knowing their project is making a minimal environmental impact and providing jobs and marketable skills for people who need it.

We are big fans of the mission and operations of Better Futures Minnesota — a social enterprise dedicated to rebuilding lives through workforce development, and compassionate, trauma-informed care with coaching supports that give people the skills and relationships they need to succeed. They work to build healthy communities by operating at the intersection of racial, social, economic, and environmental justice.

As a builder primarily focused on residential remodeling, we are acutely aware of the volume of waste that our industry generates, and take proactive measures to hep reduce waste on every project. Besides Better Futures, we often work with programs like Bridging and Habitat for Humanity as valued partners in helping us and our clients manage the truly difficult logistical process of purging household items and furniture.

Items salvaged by Better Futures are available for purchase from their reuse warehouse. Their supervised work crews specialize in building deconstruction, building maintenance, appliance recycling, and janitorial services.
